DIY: Mini Star Soap

Easy to do soap for children party gifts. These soaps look adorable in treat bags, tied with ribbon. 8 years and older can do this with adult help as it involves hot liquids and cutting with a knife.

Supplies:

● 1 pound clear melt and pour soap base, available at most craft stores

● Any liquid soap colorant or food colors.

● 1 oz of fragrance oil, any scent you like. I chose a Tutti Fruity one.

● Metal fondant or cookie cutters in star shape (I used 1 1/2” size)

● Rubbing alcohol in small spray bottle

● Craft sticks or a spoon

● Plastic flat bottom containers like Tupperware (have one for each color soap you want to make)

● 6” square is a good size, or something close.

● 2 cup Pyrex measuring cup

● Cutting board

● Steak knife to cut soap base

Instructions:

1 For each color you’re making, cut 1/4 pound clear soap base into small rough chunks (approximately ¾” cubes – don’t worry about being exact).

2 Put soap chunks into Pyrex cup.

3 Heat in a microwave for 30 seconds, then stir until all chunks are melted.

4 Put 2 drops of color directly into melted soap, stir. Add more color until it’s a bit more intense than you really want. When they’re made into the thin stars, the color will be softer than it looks in the cup.

5 Stir in 1/8 teaspoon of fragrance oil.

6 Pour colored soap into container. Spray surface of hot soap with rubbing alcohol to pop any bubbles.

7 Allow to cool on counter for 10 minutes, then put in refrigerator for 15 minutes.

8 Remove from fridge, flip over pan and push on bottom to unmold sheet of soap. You may need to pry up an edge with a butter knife and manually pull the soap out.

9 Put soap sheet on cutting board and use cutter to cut out stars. Repeat for all colors.
